The videos of our 'Man on the Street' segment at the PAX 2010 Star Wars: The Old Republic panel are now online. Thanks to everyone that took the time to talk to us. More audio of the 'Man on the Street' segment is coming soon via it's own audio podcast. We hope you enjoy the video version. Man on the Street after the jump.
Recently, the Star Wars: The Old Republic community noticed an unusual lack of information from Sean Dahlberg, leading to a great deal of speculation. Joanne Laroche, Senior Community Coordinator for BioWare, made an official post today clearing up the mystery.
Sean Dahlberg has recently left BioWare. We would like to thank Sean for doing a great job building the TOR Community and we wish him well in his future endeavors!
Our working dissection of the Mysteries of The Knights of The Old Republic is after the jump. In addition to the hints of learning what happened to Darth Revan and a glimpse into his compound (plus the appearance of HK-47), this particular video gave us the first look at high level Sith Empire group play with more than two players, and included companions. We decided to use a slightly different approach in this dissection, and concentrate on the behavior of the NPC AI to see if we could gain some insight into aggro ranges.
As always, content that is covered in past dissections will not be covered in this one but feel free to take a look at our past dissections for reference. As with all dissections, we will be adding stuff on the fly so make sure to check back here for updates, meatbags.
BioWare's Daniel Erickson posted a response to an inquiry regarding a statement he made during a PAX booth conversation in a thread on the official forums:
If you can't imagine it making out with Princess Leia, you probably won't be able to play it.
I think a large response would be that many of us have very active imaginations, and can imagine quite a bit, but for some clarification, what can't YOU imagine?
Please note we are encoding and uploading video from the PAX panel as fast as we can. Since we were sitting in the first row, there was no way to set up the camera to get a wide angle shot of the stage like we did last year, so we apologize for the quality.
We're getting our usual live blog going a few hours early, so feel free to join us at staring at the PAX logo until 5PM PDT / 8PM EDT. If we manage to have our own video feed available, then you'll find it here as well as text and images from the presentation. Don't forget our meet up is tonight at 8PM PDT at Gameworks, and all video will be on our YouTube channel.
To kick off our time at PAX and tide us over until tomorrow's presentation, BioWare's Blaine Christine spoke with us for a bit about the differences and similarities of Advanced Classes, plus the various multi-player aspects of questing, companions, and exploration. Of course, we couldn't resist asking about a few other controversial things such as their view of the community uproar over the naming of the Jedi Wizard, or what drove the decision to implement class trainers.
BioWare's Joanne Laroche announced some more Space Combat details as part of its launch as a information page in the official website's Game Systems section:
Blast your way through asteroid fields, enemy fighters, and a variety of other obstacles as you encounter fast-paced Space Combat missions in Star Wars™: The Old Republic™. In these occurrences, you'll fly your personal starship to various hot spots on the galaxy map and experience gameplay that will evoke memories of some of the great Star Wars™ space battles. Watch the gameplay footage of Space Combat in the latest addition to the Game Systems section and learn more about the rewards players can unlock in Space Combat. Also check out the media section to see screenshots, concept art, and wallpapers portraying these heroic battles in space.

Kotaku, Gamasutra, and the LA Times are reporting significant restructuring at LucasArts with approximately one third of its staff suffering layoffs. LA Times updated its initial article to state that the layoffs majorly affected game programmers, and excluded its marketing department. Kotaku's Micheal McWhertor reports "an estimated 60 people let go from development and 25 from external production and QA getting the employment vibro-ax." At the moment it is uncertain what effect, if any, this new will have on The Old Republic, however it is always unfortunate when people lose their jobs. We here at Darth Hater wish the best of luck to all those effected by this news.

This week's Friday Update for Star Wars: The Old Republic brings us the continuing adventures of Teneb Kel, Maggot, and Exal Kressh in Blood of the Empire #10. With a strong focus on companion characters, this issue continues to expand on the dynamics between the Sith and his slave. For those of you looking for more information on the game, be sure to check out our forums for active discussions on all things TOR; including great debate on space combat, referenced planets, class abilities, and nearly any other relevant topic.
Great thread from the community about the size of Ord Mantell detailed with maps, 3D models, and more. Worthy of checking out for those interested in learning more about the size of Ord Mantell.
Translated German interviews that highlight companions, quests, and space combat. Many of these aspects are fleshed out more than we have heard up until now.
Our European friends at SWTOR-Station appear to have images of all of most of the abilities leading up to level 46 for a few of the classes. The abilities themselves have exciting possibilities but the fact that these abilities seem to stop at level 46 lends more credence to the argument that level 50 could possibly be the cap (see our interview with Arnie Jorgensen for more). The important thing to remember with these abilities being seen is that this is not a complete list, these appear to be only the class shared abilities, meaning non-advanced class or tree abilities. Beyond abilities, there are images of a few of the origin world maps and more. Note: Make sure to click the British/American flag for English. Hat tip to chronium on the heads up.
It is podcast time this week, and as always, we're looking for questions from the community. If you have any Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ or website related questions you would like to have answered on the podcast, then feel free to ask them in the comment section of this post.
This week's community poll/discussion after the jump.
Darth Hater currently has several open positions for those seeking to become a part of our team, get some potential exposure in the gaming industry, or just want to lend some time helping us follow Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Whether you're looking to dominate the galaxy in the name of the Empire or rescue it from darkness as part of the Republic, you wont get very far without a starship. In Star Wars: The Old Republic, your starship will be your base of operations, and it might even be your best friend. Ship models are specially designed to match the needs and tastes of each of the class types, so even though all the starships are outfitted for traveling the galaxy, each has its own character. Study the style and specifications of the various Starships by accessing the HoloNet now!
You will notice these Starships have been dissected from the Space Combat Video that came out earlier this week. As well as Starships there are new polls available for your perusal. The poll questions are:
As always, we look forward to seeing the results of the new polls.
There is also a Fan Friday featuring artwork from community members Wraloa and Kiuas, a fan-created video from Tukor, a showcase of a community RP thread, and more new avatars.
But most importantly, the Developer Corner outlined everything announced during our Gamescom presention about Advanced Classs (where we failed the "let's see how many data points we can write down in 20 seconds and if we can read our own handwriting" test -- self-depreciating humor there folks, but you can now see why we had some stuff missing), and new concept art that seems to show HK-47, or at the least a model of his same type. Aurebesh translations after the jump.
We were able to have multiple members of the Darth Hater staff on hand to help compile the following ability stats at Gamescom. With the rushed nature of our hands on time, the consistency from one class to the next is understandably variable. Additionally, it should be noted that we were repeatedly reminded that all in-game text from character sheets to tooltips are considered "placeholder" and may be subject to change.
Note: We played Level 2 characters. Although we previously mentioned many abilities in prior dissections and other content, we included them to contrast and track changes between the various builds. Changes from one build to the next are highlighted in bold.
